Nasdaq 100 futures were also slightly higher, advancing less than 0.1%. The cautious rebound comes after Wall Street recorded another weak session on Thursday, with all three major indexes extending their losing streak to four consecutive sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 300 points, or 0.6%, on Thursday. The S&amp;P 500 declined 0.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.7%. For the week, the Dow is on track to lose around 2.5%. The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq are both heading toward weekly declines of approximately 1.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The continued weakness highlights growing investor caution ahead of fresh inflation data and the Federal Reserve\u2019s upcoming policy decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>CPI Becomes the Main Market Catalyst<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The August CPI report is scheduled for release Friday, with economists surveyed by Dow Jones expecting consumer prices to rise 0.4% month-over-month and 3.4% year-over-year. The report is particularly important because it comes just days before the Federal Reserve\u2019s September 16 policy meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Market pricing currently indicates roughly a 71% probability of a rate hike, according to CME Group\u2019s FedWatch tool. A CPI reading close to expectations could reduce pressure on the Fed to tighten policy, while a stronger-than-expected inflation figure could increase expectations for a rate hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CPI release could create significant volatility across U.S. stocks, the U.S. dollar, Treasury yields and gold. If inflation comes in hotter than expected, traders may increase bets on tighter Fed policy. That could push Treasury yields and the dollar higher while putting additional pressure on equities and gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, a softer CPI reading could ease expectations for tighter monetary policy, potentially supporting stocks while putting downward pressure on Treasury yields and the dollar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For traders, the key is therefore not simply whether inflation rises or falls, but how the CPI compares with market expectations and how quickly interest-rate pricing reacts afterward.
