{"id":62477,"date":"2024-05-06T17:03:56","date_gmt":"2024-05-06T17:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hub.onequity.com\/?p=1620"},"modified":"2024-05-06T17:03:56","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T17:03:56","slug":"u-s-stocks-open-higher-as-fed-rate-cuts-expected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/insights.onequity.com\/ar\/u-s-stocks-open-higher-as-fed-rate-cuts-expected\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. stocks open higher as Fed rate cuts expected"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>U.S. stocks rose in early\u00a0trading Monday,\u00a0as investors increased\u00a0bets for\u00a0a September interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve following a weaker-than-expected April jobs report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nonfarm&nbsp;payrolls&nbsp;data came in weaker than expected<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday&#8217;s weaker-than-expected nonfarm payrolls data could prompt the Federal Reserve to prepare for a rate cut later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the labor market is showing signs of cooling, inflation remains above the Fed&#8217;s 2% annual target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, the Fed reported a lack of progress in its fight against price pressures, which has been the key focus of a tightening cycle that has driven rates to more than two-decade highs.\u00a0However, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell acknowledged that borrowing costs continue to fall and said it is unlikely that the Fed&#8217;s next move will be to raise rates again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Markets will focus this week on statements from several Fed officials that could provide further signals about interest rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equities were buoyed by the jobs numbers at the end of last week, with Wall Street&#8217;s major indexes ending in the green on Friday.
